Tom Werle, Piping superintendent at B & I Contractors, has joined the ranks of a very exclusive organization. He just recently became an American Welding Society-Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), a feat which involved an extremely intensive, two-week licensure process. The American Welding Society is the largest organization in the world dedicated to advancing the science, technology, and application of welding and allied processes, including joining, brazing, soldering, cutting, and thermal spray.
His journey in obtaining CWI licensure included both study and examination procedures with 10 classroom hours each day, as well as four hours of study time every evening leading up to a three-part test. Each part was two hours long and tested over topics such as different types of welding inspection and certification, testing processes, metallurgy, as well as various other welding knowledge, skills and techniques.
"It was a grueling few weeks and I could not have done it with out the constant support at B & I" says Tom. "I am excited to apply what I have learned out in the field." Werle was required to meet strict qualifications to even be accepted into the certification program. Applicants must be members in good standing of the American Welding Society; supply notarized documented work experience, and includes a visual acuity record from a licensed ophthalmologist.
As a certified welding inspector, Werle will perform inspections and verify that the work conforms to the applicable standards. "We are proud of his accomplishments here at B & I," says Mike Novo, Pipefitting Manager for B & I Contractors, a commercial Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Contractor with offices located in Fort Myers and Sarasota.
