Pipefitters and Electricians travel 3,000 miles to work on Power Plant Evaporator

May, 2009

"We now have opened our Global branch!"

Earl Mattas, Scott Steele, Jason Walker and William Polke were selected to travel 3,000 miles to perform work in Goldendale, Washington on a project where NIC selected B&I to team up with. The project was upgrading a 5 story evaporator for a Gas turbine electric generator at the Power Plant. Mike Novo and Bob Morrison went to Tampa to visit a TECO power plant where this had already been completed. It required the guys to work 12 hr days for 10 days including Memorial Day to complete the task. The electrical portion of the project was to install light fixtures, conduit and wire and power to control cabinet. The Mechanical portion consisted of fitting and welding of various stainless steel and carbon steel components. This required Jason and William to become certified on the AWS D1.1 and 1.6 structural welding code. Upon completion of the mechanical portion, they passed inspection with 100%. Gary Hoogervorst, Mark Robery and Tom Werle also played an integral part in this project by writing the welding specifications and helped to execute the test, testing of personal and mobilization of the project.

NIC who we were working for has several more to upgrade and they are scattered all over the USA and some overseas. We now have opened our Global branch.

"TEAM" is what played a big part in the success - Great job to all.

"The welders and electricians performed outstanding. They all performed professionally and adapted very well to the project work scope and safety requirements as well as fit in nicely with our workers and the site. Thanks to you all for providing these services to NIC and I look forward to working again with B & I on future projects." - Ken Erickson of National Inspection & Consultants, Inc.
