In the near future: With the changes in our local economy, I want to focus more efforts on the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) needs of existing buildings.
I was born and raised in Southwest Florida and am very familiar with the establishments that have been in our community since the early 1970s. Some of these buildings will be renovated in the near future and I hope to be a part of this process to make these buildings more comfortable and more energy efficient while maintaining historical significance.
Long-term goals: Working for B&I Contractors provides an opportunity to have a similar impact on the community. Whether working with local building owners to improve building comfort and energy consumption, or through involvement with local charitable organizations, I hope to have a positive impact on the quality of life in Southwest Florida.
Hobbies, interests and activities: I enjoy remodeling homes, doing yard work, landscaping and building furniture. I also love traveling, especially out of the country, and snorkeling, camping and mountain biking. My wife and I are actively involved with Jazz on the Green.
Family: My wife, Diana, and I have four children: Spencer, 20, Zachariah, 18, Christian, 15, and Jeannie, 19.
Last book read: "Origin of Consciousness and the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind" by Julian Jaynes.
Role model: My father. He is a true Renaissance man, with encyclopedic knowledge on everything from sports to philosophy.
In the early 1970s, he was the founding dean of the original University of South Florida faculty at the Gwynne Building in downtown Fort Myers. He remained with USF, and then Florida Gulf Coast University until his retirement in 2003. Many of my teachers, from elementary through high school, would tell me how much they enjoyed having him as a professor and mentor.
His impact on the community was very noticeable.
Word of advice: Organize yourself daily.
At the end of the day, leave your office with a clean desk.
Respond to your clients' needs promptly.
Above all, enjoy what you do.
