Medical Gas Piping

B&I Plumbing Foreman Joe Russell brazing overhead medical gas lines

Medical gas pipelines must be installed according to strict standards. The installing plumbers must be certified to ASSE Standard #6010. B&I Contractors employs a complete staff of Med Gas Certified plumbers.
Copper medical gas lines used in healthcare facilities must conform to ASTM B 819 standards, i.e. the copper tube and fittings are cleaned, purged, and sealed from the manufacturer before delivery to the jobsite. B&I plumbers installed more than 5,000 feet of "cleaned and capped" copper tube and 2,500 "cleaned and bagged" copper fittings at the Southwest Florida Oral & Facial Surgery Center.

Copper tube plays a dual role in the plumbing systems at the Southwest Florida Oral & Facial Surgery Center. In addition to the purged med gas copper lines, standard copper tube and fittings were used for the domestic water piping system.
Water piping and med gas piping can both be seen here in the photo to the left. The hot and cold water lines are identifiable from the two ball valves in the upper-right of the photo. The med gas lines will be used for vacuum, oxygen, medical air, nitrous oxide, and waste anesthetic gas disposal
