B & I Plumbing Department provides temporary water service for all trades during new construction. A hose bibb attached to a Schedule 80 PVC pipe (lower right corner) will provide water to the jobsite while the new building is going up.

B & I Plumbing Department was one of the first construction crews onsite to begin the new addition at Grace United Methodist Church. Prior to the foundation of the new building being set, B & I plumbers installed new underground utilities to connect to the municipal fire main, domestic water, and sewer systems.

This new trench, which extends nearly 300 feet across the property, holds a new fire main and new domestic water piping.

The gray 2" Schedule 80 PVC pipe is the domestic water piping. The blue 8" C900 PVC pipe is the fire main.

Mechanical joint fittings branch off the fire main to the new building, the existing building, and one unused outlet for future use.

Underground mechanical joint gate valves allow individual branches of the fire main to be shut off for service or repair.

The new Wilkins RPZ backflow preventers will protect municipal water from contamination if a negative pressure should ever occur in the water main.

|

A negative pressure could occur if a nearby firetruck was pumping a lot of water. Backflow preventers isolate private water systems from municipal water if this happens.

The new underground sewer includes cleanouts for service access to the sewer pipe.
Prior to backfilling the sewer trench, the dirt around and beneath the sewer pipe must be compacted to prevent the pipe from collapsing or losing its grade.
Once the fill dirt around the sewer pipe has been compacted, the trench can begin to be backfilled. Pipe joints and fittings will be left uncovered until the underground sewer has been approved by the Cape Coral plumbing inspector.
