Manatee Community College Chiller Addition - Bradenton In March and April of 2003, B & I Contractors' Pipefitting Department installed a new 1000-ton Trane centrifugal chiller at the Manatee Community College in Bradenton, FL. The tonnage of the chiller does not refer to its weight, but its cooling capacity. In the HVAC industry, a ton is a unit of energy measurement equal to 12,000 BTUs.
